Intensive Counselors
David L. Ragsdale, M.A., LPC
Mr. Ragsdale is the Director of Counseling for Quiet Waters Ministries. He received his Masters
degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary. He received specialized training in Marriage and
Family Therapy from Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry and Mental Health Sciences. Mr.
Ragsdale has more than 22 years of experience in counseling and church staff work.
Werner Boos, Psy.D.
Dr. Boos received his doctorate of Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver, Graduate
School of Professional Psychology in 1982. His Masters of Divinity was completed at Concordia
Seminary and he is an ordained Lutheran pastor. A licensed clinical psychologist in the state of
Colorado, he also carries the distinction of being a Diplomat in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors
Victoria Johnson, MSW, LCSW
Vicki Johnson received her Masters in Social Work in from the University of Connecticut. She is
a licensed clinical social worker in the State of Colorado. She is a member of the National
Association of Social Work and the National Federation of Clinical Social Workers. Vicki is a
frequent speaker at Women''s Retreats.
Tom Varney, Th.M, D.Phil
Dr. Varney received his D. Phil., in Religion and Society from Oxford Graduate School with a
major in Behavioral Science and his Th.M in Counseling from Grace Theological Seminary. He
has served as dean of the Graduate Counseling Program and Professor of Counseling and
Spiritual Theology at Colorado Christian University. Dr. Varney currently pastors a church and
counsels.
Adolescent Counselor
John E. Davis, M.A.
Mr. Davis is a Certified Addictions Counselor Level I and a licensed professional counselor with
therapeutic specialized work with at-risk adolescents and their families. This includes diagnosis
and assessment, drug and alcohol education and therapy, anger management, behavioral
disorders, impulse control disorders and mood disorders. His therapeutic approach to connecting
with clients is outdoor activities including rock climbing and rappelling.
Ministry Assistance Counselors
Bruce A. Dodson, M.A.
Mr. Dodson is a Licensed Professional Counselor who serves Individuals, Marriages and
Families through his private counseling practice. He also serves as a consultant in the area of
Leadership Development for a local church and other Christian organizations. He is a board
member of LeaderCare of Denver, CO., and Small Group Therapy of Hot Springs, AR. He is a
graduate of the University of Arkansas and Denver Seminary.
Fred Walz, S.T.M.
Rev. Walz has served as a parish pastor as an ordained minister in the Presbyterian church
(USA), a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and a Licensed
Professional Counselor. Specialized interests include unresolved grief over past losses, family
and step-family dynamics and solutions, and mid- life transitions.
Advisors and Lecturers
L. Lee McDowell, M.A.
Mrs. McDowell is a graduate of Wheaton College and Denver Seminary. She has facilitated
personal growth and development as a Ministry Director, public speaker, mentor and clinical
therapist specializing in issues of transition and loss. Widowed, Lee was married to Dr.
Clyde McDowell for almost 26 years as he served as pastor and seminary president. She is a
member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Medical Advisors
William B. Scholten, MD
Dr. Scholten received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in
Chicago, Illinois with his undergraduate degree coming from Calvin College in Grand Rapids,
Michigan. His internship was at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids and his residency in
Psychiatry at Menninger School of Psychiatry and Topeka State Hospital, both in Topeka,
Kansas.
John Draper, MD
Dr. Draper received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri - Rolla. He went
on to complete his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He did his
Internship and Residency in Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Draper is currently in private
practice in Aurora, Colorado. He is board certified in Family Medicine and has medical licensure
in Missouri and Colorado.
Dr. Keith McDonald, MD
Dr. McDonald received his undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia. He
completed his medical degree and his Residency in Internal Medicine from the Medical School at
the University of Saskatchewan, then he completed his Endocrinology Fellowship at Harvard
Medical School and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. Dr. McDonald served as an Associate
Professor of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and was a Professor of Medicine at the
University of Colorado while in private practice in endocrinology in Denver, Colorado. Although
currently retired, he is licensed in Colorado.
